Putin & Trump’s Trap - For Zelenskyy & Ukraine

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin - Ukraine's fate on a precedent-setting knife's edge
Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin - Ukraine's fate on a precedent-setting knife's edge - Fox News

Since his first term, it’s been amply clear that Trump is Putin’s shameful shill and subservient stooge. Trump, America’s most improbable President, cannot stop promoting and praising one of the most ruthless national leaders Vladimir Putin, who neither hesitates at killing others outside his country, nor baulks at executing his own people, be they political opposition, or the Russian soldiers being mercilessly slaughtered at the Ukrainian front-line.

Ever since getting elected for both his terms, Trump as the President of the USA, has been Putin’s personal apologist, his ticket to global re-acceptance, and his path to redemption.

Now, Trump is a more-than-willing western agent, and a rather keen facilitator for Putin’s ‘Greater Russia’ ambitions, which include keeping Ukraine’s annexed and invaded territories.

In that mission, recently clarified, and clearly assigned to Trump and his administration’s spineless sellouts, behind closed doors in Alaska, Trump is to invite Volodymyr Zelenskyy to the White House where he would be set up for a second ambush, and trapped by Putin’s unacceptable offer, which, if he accepts he loses, and if he doesn’t accept he loses.

From what has been gleaned so far from the Alaska meet, Trump is to convey to Ukraine’s President Zelenskyy the offer that for some ‘NATO Article-5’-like guarantees which Putin would allow, Ukraine ‘doesn’t need to join NATO’, and, Ukraine is to let Russia keep territories it has already annexed, like Crimea, and give over the other two entire Provinces of Donetsk and Luhansk, for the withdrawal of Russian troops from the rest of Ukraine. Details of the actual terms are extremely sketchy to say the least, in light of the fact that neither Putin nor Trump disclosed anything about their behind closed-doors discussions.

In light of the fact that Russia annexed Crimea from Ukraine, and then invaded its eastern border and encroached fairly deeply into sovereign Ukraine territory, it is quite understandable that Ukraine and its President Zelenskyy are not in the mood to give any territory to Russia.

In fact, they have hoped to win this war with the help of its western backers, including the US, and get back its taken-by-force territories at the end of their defensive war. But, they have had the misfortune of having Putin’s invaluable ally, Donald Trump, get elected to the White House by the American people, and now the Ukrainians have a pro-Putin agent working actively against them, thwarting them by withholding critically needed weapons when most needed, and money, always desperately needed to fight a war, and sabotaging negotiations.

President Zelenskyy knows what a trap he and Ukraine’s are in already, and the additional traps that are being set for him by the diabolically strategic Putin, through Trump.

So, to assist him in not being ambushed alone, as he had been done in the recent past by Trump and his administration in the White House, he has asked the European leaders to accompany him to meet with Trump and plead Ukraine’s and Europe’s larger case, as the collective ‘coalition of the willing’.

We simply cannot see Trump being happy with this development, which promises to make his job of twisting Zelenskyy's arm off to make Ukraine take Putin’s one-sided offer, so much harder. So, we won’t be surprised that Trump tries to sabotage that meeting, if it really does take place at all.

The European leaders who plan to accompany Ukraine’s Zelenskyy to the White House to meet Trump are, France’s President Emmanuel Macron, Italy's Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, England’s Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Germany’s Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Finland’s President Alexander Stubb, EU Commission President Ursula Van der Leyen, and the NATO Chief, Mark Rutte.

The European leaders are in solidarity with Ukraine against Russia, because they themselves have a lot to fear from an unchecked Russia.

They do not want to see Putin and Russia rewarded for their military aggression, regardless of the reasons behind the aggression. Because, they believe that if Russia is allowed to keep territory taken-by-force in Ukraine, then it sets a bad precedent which later Russia may take advantage of to target other countries in Europe, and the neighbouring regions.

The fact is, the European leaders do not trust Putin as far as they could throw him, in spite of Trump’s personal assurances that deep-down Putin is a really nice guy, just a bit misunderstood.

On the other hand, the European leaders do not trust Trump as far as they, collectively, could throw him either (much greater bulk than Putin), because they know the man as he is, a habitually dishonest man, in spite of almost half of Americans having voted for him in spite of his criminality, pathological lying, his moral bankruptcy and his subservience to Putin.

It will be interesting to see how Trump will try and sabotage Ukraine, and move Putin’s agenda forward in spite of the pressure from the other world leaders, who are America’s historical, cultural, military and economic partners to-date. Trump’s words and moves during and after this historic meeting, will more clearly indicate the depth of his commitment and ties to Putin, and his sellout of American and European values and vision.

It’s a long ways from stopping the Ukraine and Russia war on ‘Day One’!

Now, as is his custom, a failed Trump is changing the goal-posts as usual. It is no longer ‘I alone can stop the war’, now its: ‘its all up to Zelenskyy to accept or reject Putin’s offer’. Trump has shifted the responsibility from himself, as usual, and now he puts it on Zelenskyy, and no doubt on the European leaders, if things don’t go forward from here towards peace. There is no certainty where Trump is concerned, except one; he will not take responsibility for failure, regardless of how much it is it is his doing.

And when it comes to stopping wars, he hasn’t stopped any, yet.
